25 Scriptures To Pray For Your Writing
I knew God had called me to write a book about praying Scripture , and I needed Him to help me do so. Every time I came across a Bible verse that inspired my writing, I recorded it on a list I kept in my prayer journal. I'd read through and pray the writing-related scriptures before I started writing. Or when I felt led to pray for specific things for my writing, I'd look up the related scriptures. My guess is you know you need to be praying for your writing too. Maybe you're not sure how to get started praying for your writing. Or you're looking for fresh words and verses to pray. You've come to the right place my friend. Below are some of my favorite prayer prompts and scriptures I like to pray for my writing and ministry. There's plenty of other relevant Bible verses, but this list should help you get started in praying over your writing.

I thought perhaps I would write a young adult book: as a former middle school English teacher, I devour plenty of those, wanting to be able to share my love of reading with my students who are always looking for a good book. I wrote two young adult novels and even sought out publication for them. I even had a few agents interested in one of my books but they wanted me to make some changes that I didn't have time for, because I was suddenly thrown into a world of special needs parenting. We know as Christian writers we're supposed to build a platform so that others can hear our message (and hopefully buy our books should we feel led to write and publish any ). But building a platform can feel icky or distracting. This book is filled with great reminders of why building a platform is a great way to share the Gospel and words of hope with the whole world. I loved the use of Scriptures throughout to help make the message clear.

Social media can feel overwhelming and can also make you feel like you’re spending hours of time trying to understand and grow your social media accounts and not focusing on the thing you want to do most as a writer: write. But it is still important to use social media as a writer. Each social media account you use allows you to share your writing to a group of people who are interested in reading it. It is a place where you can minister to others with the stories and the messages that God has gifted you. It is a place for you to share the messages and stories that God has put on your heart to share with others. It is a place for you to shine a light in a very dark world. “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

We are in survival mode, not seeking God mode. But it is vital that we process those emotions, rather than holding them in until one day we explode or hit a breaking point. David was considered a man after God's own heart and he was known for writing the Psalms–full of his struggles and worries but always coming back to praise God and declaring his love and trust of God. As Christian writers, we’ve spent months—maybe years—working on and praying over a manuscript, and we excitedly hit publish and watch the sales and reviews ever so slowly trickle in. Without some strategy for getting reviews, many won't come in naturally. Most authors say on average they get one book review for every 100 sales organically. If it takes you six months to sell 100 books, that means you'll be getting two new reviews a year without doing any work for more reviews. But more reviews help with increased sales. I used to think writer’s block was a sign that something was broken. That I was procrastinating. That I wasn’t “called enough.” That maybe God had stopped speaking. I remember one particularly heavy season, sitting at my desk, hands over the keyboard, tears blurring the blinking cursor. The deadlines were looming, the journal pages were empty, and my once-vibrant creativity felt like ash in my mouth. I begged God for words, but only silence echoed back. What I’ve since come to learn is that silence isn’t absence—it’s often invitation. An invitation not to strive harder, but to sit longer. Not to fill the page with noise, but to allow the quiet to recalibrate my soul. In that slow, quiet season, God began gently whispering, “ You don’t write for Me—you write with Me .” As Christian writers, we often feel pressure to be endlessly inspired. After all, we’re writing for the Kingdom. Shouldn’t the words just flow? But even Jesus withdrew from the crowds to lonely places (Luke 5:16).

Facebook groups are incredible ways of connecting with people around a similar interest or need, and they are incredible tools for ministry and for growing your own business or ministry. As a mother of two children with special needs, I knew how lonely the special needs parenting journey could be. I knew the challenges in life and in your own faith. So when COVID hit, and mothers of special needs children felt even more isolation and lost the tiny village they so desperately needed, I felt led to create a Facebook group for them . I thought it'd be temporary, getting us through the times of social distancing, but God had other plans. Today, almost five years later, our group has slowly and steadily grown to over 1700 members who support each other and pray for each other. We share resources, prayer requests, praises, and so much more. My Facebook group is one of my absolute favorite places to hang out online, and so many of my group members have said the same thing.
